How do I check the legitimacy of a charity organization?

A new thrift store has opened up in my neighbourhood and it claims to be a non profit organization that helps out children in need in Philippines: www.sunshinehelpinghand.com. How can I find out if it’s legit? It seems that anyone can make a website nowdays. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
